1999-2008 The Sunshine Project (Director)
Co-founded the Sunshine Project, a small international NGO focused on biological weapons issues, and led its research program. Authored noted reports on "non-lethal" biochemical weapons, laboratory safety, US biodefense program expansion, anti-drug biological agents, smallpox virus stocks, and other topics. Testified before the US House of Representatives and developed expertise in the Freedom of Information Act and other open records laws.
1995-1999 Rural Advancement Foundation International (Program Officer)
Research, writing, and advocacy work on genetic resources and biopiracy issues for RAFI, now known as the ETC Group. Primary author of several editions of RAFI Communique as responsibilities in international advocacy on biotechnology and agriculture, particularly at the Convention on Biological Diversity and Food and Agriculture Organization.
1990-1991 Survival International
Transitioned from an internship to staff position at Washington, DC office. Learned non-profit basics and facilitated discussions between Amazonian indigenous people and US environmental organizations.
